Join us! \n‘Fruit Loop’ Queer History: Long before drag-performance-art became a part of mainstream pop-culture\, it could be found in dive bars on the fringe of Downtown Phoenix. Originally coined by police officers working the area\, the ‘Fruit Loop’ spanned Roosevelt and Portland streets between First and Third streets. “It was home to Diana Ross-inspired drag shows of lip synchers in sequins — queens\, transsexuals\, and aspiring art connoisseurs abounded.” (Janessa Hilliard – NT article below) Arguably one of the more famous Fruit Loop regulars\, artist Ted DeGrazia was once rumored to have covered a bar tab by bartering to paint a mural inside the bar. The mural was sadly demolished in 2015\, but the Phoenix queer community remains\, stronger than ever (reference article here). \nSupport Queer-Owned Shops! \nPhoenix General: 214 E Roosevelt Street\, Phoenix AZ 85004\nBunky Boutique: 1001 N Central Ave Suite 125\, Phoenix\, AZ 85004\nDialog: 1001 N Central Ave Suite 125\, Phoenix\, AZ 85004 *Parsons Center for Health and Wellness: 1101 N Central Ave #200\, Phoenix\, AZ 85004 (*Location for kickoff breakfast & tour of Southwest Center)
