In this installment of HerStory, we’re putting the spotlight on LaCenia. LaCenia preferred wine and cocktails for a long time until discovering her love and true appreciation for beer. Now, she enjoys visiting different breweries with her husband and even had a two-hour conversation about beer at her baby shower!
We received LaCenia’s amazing and inspiring Herstory and wanted to learn more about her journey from cocktails and wine…to beer!
I have always been a sucker for beautifully handcrafted cocktails and an elegant glass of wine. I consider myself to have true appreciation for both spirits and wine; however, I never found the same amusement with beer…until recently.

My husband has always been a beer person and when we first started dating he started drinking the ultimate frat beers. To me, these lacked in taste and were watered down for the most part. I didn’t feel it was a beverage I could truly enjoy with nor without food. Over time, his taste buds started to evolve and he began ordering more craft beers and eventually asking about the taste profile. He was essentially approaching beer in a similar way that I approached wine which intrigued me. Therefore, I started trying his beers and I was pleasantly surprised.
I started out drinking approachable hefeweizens that were light and fruity and slowly graduated to IPAs and stouts. Currently, my husband and I enjoy visiting breweries and ordering flights, so we can compare beers in various categories. We are also new parents and I’ve heard stouts and porters help with milk production, so I consider myself WINNING!!!

What are your favorite beer styles?
Approachable, flavorful, smooth, and clean finish.
What is your favorite beer?
Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc– it is an easy go to, has everything I like in a beer and [it’s] accessible.
Do you think beer has a place in promoting good conversation?
Absolutely!!! My baby shower had a 2 hour impromptu group conversation all about beer.
Do you think it’s important that we have female brewers in this industry?
I think it is important for balance and give a bit of disruption to a male dominated market.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Creating memories with my friends and family.
What are you most proud of in life?
My family.
Do you have any words of wisdom for fellow elegant beer drinkers trying to make it in this world?
